Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few questions we get asked. If there is a question that you can't se the anwer to, please contact us and a member of staff will get back to you.

What food is provided at preschool?

Children have a snack mid-morning.

As a friendly community preschool our parents regularly donate snacks for the children to share.

Snack foods comprises fruit, vegetables (e.g. tomatoes, carrots or cucumber), sultanas and raisins, cheese portions, breadsticks – food provided is always healthy and nutritious.

Trained staff prepare the food according to health and safety regulations. The children are given a choice of milk or water to drink.

Lunches are provided by Derbyshire County Council, and are taken in the main hall with the primary school children and staff. The lunch-time menu varies each term, with a different meal served each day of the week, and a vegetarian option is available.

Is Food provided during Out of school club and holiday club?

Snacks are provided during Out of School and Holiday club, but unfortunatly we don't have the facilities to provide Lunch during holiday club so we ask that you provided a packed Lunch for your child.

What do I need to bring on my child's first day at Preschool?

Settling your child in to Preschool

Parents are always welcome, and are free to stay with their child for the start of a session, or the first few sessions, or until they feel happy that their child has settled.

What to bring

Please bring a nappy bag (nappies, wipes, nappy bags, cream) if your child is still in nappies.

All children will need wellies (for outside play), which can be kept at preschool if preferred, and a change of clothes in case needed.

Children need to come with a warm coat, hat and gloves on cold days. On sunny, warm days please provide a sun hat and make sure sun cream is applied.

Children are encouraged to do messy play (so you don't have to!) such as playing with sand, water and paint, and to play outside. So we recommend you send your child in everyday clothes that you would be happy for them to get messy in!

How can I get involved!

We always welcome help from mums, dads, guardians and grandparents. As an independent charity, we rely on parent and community involvement. The close working relationship between staff and parents gives our preschool a unique character.

Parents are welcome to help out in the setting, which also helps parents too as it gives a good opportunity to get to know the staff and a feel for the character of the school.

All parents are required to attend some of our 3 open committee meetings a year (including our AGM), so they can stay up to date with what is happening, and have their say in how their school is run.

We would very much welcome new members who would like to join the Preschool Committee, and help is always needed to run our fund raising events.
